Indian para athlete Hokato Hotozhe Sema delivered an exceptional performance at the Paris Paralympics 2024 to secure the bronze medal in the men’s shot put F57 event. The 40-year-old Indian para-athlete threw a personal best of 14.65 meters on his fourth attempt, contributing to India's impressive medal tally, which now stands at 27.
Sema's performance was consistent throughout the event, but it was his fourth throw that stood out. After starting with a decent 13.88 meters in his first attempt, Sema gradually improved, throwing 14.00 meters and 14.40 meters in his next two attempts.
Then, in a moment of brilliance, he launched the shot to 14.65 meters, his best throw of the day, securing the bronze medal. He followed up with a 14.15-meter throw and closed with 13.80 meters, but his fourth throw had already solidified his podium finish.
Meanwhile, the gold medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024 men’s shot put F57 went to Yasin Khosravi from Iran, who was in outstanding form. Khosravi threw a personal best of 15.96 meters in his fourth attempt, dominating the competition from start to finish. His consistent performance, with each of his six throws exceeding 15 meters, left no doubt about his victory.
Brazil’s Thiago Paulino dos Santos claimed the silver medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024 men’s shot put F57 with a throw of 15.06 meters, achieved in his third attempt. He showed remarkable consistency as well, with five of his six throws measuring over 14.6 meters, but none could surpass Khosravi’s gold-winning mark.
India’s Soman Rana, who was also in contention at the Paris Paralympics 2024 men’s shot put F57, put in a solid effort but ultimately finished fifth. His best throw came in his second attempt, reaching 14.07 meters. Despite not making the podium, Rana’s performance was commendable.
