Prime Minister Narendra Modi sends best wishes to French President Emmanuel Macron for the Paris Olympics

The Paris Olympics 2024 is getting closer with every passing day. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the opportunity to convey his best wishes to French President Emmanuel Macron for the Paris Olympics. Both the leaders met on the sidelines of the G7 summit.

The Olympics are held once every four years. This time around, the Olympic games will be held in Paris starting on July 26 and will end on August 11, 2024.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media, wishing French President Emmanuel Macron best wishes for hosting the Paris Olympics, on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

"Had an excellent meeting with my friend President @EmmanuelMacron. This is our fourth meeting in one year, indicating the priority we accord to strong India-French ties. Our talks covered numerous subjects such as defence, security, technology, AI, Blue Economy and more. We also discussed how to encourage innovation and research among the youth. I conveyed my best wishes to him on the hosting of the Paris Olympics, which begins next month," the tweet read.

Narendra Modi recently swore in for his third consecutive term earlier this month. His meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron marked his first foreign trip after being sworn in once again.

The two leaders previously met in January. It was the occasion of Macron attending India's 75th Republic Day celebrations as the guest of honor.

Nearly 100 Indian athletes have qualified for the Paris Olympics

India's preparations for the Paris Olympics are in full swing. So far, close to 100 athletes have already made the cut, sealing their qualification spots for the Olympics. This number is only expected to increase as the month follows.

The previous edition of the Olympics took place in Tokyo in 2021. It was held after a delay of one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. India's best Olympic performance came at the Tokyo Olympics.

The nation managed to bag seven medals. This included the historic gold medal, also the first-ever track and field gold medal for the country, which was won by javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.

With the number of athletes qualifying for the Olympic games this time expected to go beyond the 100 mark, India will certainly be keen on improving the medal count as well.

India's poster boy, Neeraj Chopra, is once again expected to undoubtedly be a top contender to achieve a podium finish in Paris.
