Indian para shooters Rubina Francis and Swaroop Unhalkar have been awarded quotas for the Paralympics 2024 in Paris under the bipartite rule. With this, a total of 10 Indian shooters will now participate in the Paralympics. The Paralympic Committee of India applied for two bipartite spots for the shooters because of their outstanding but narrowly missed quota-place performances.

Rubina Francis is a woman competing in the 10m Air Pistol SH1 category and ranked No. 2 in the world, while Swaroop Unhalkar competes in the men's 10m Air Rifle SH1.

Both of them have shown consistency in their performance with regard to international competitions. Rubina, who turned gold medalist at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, missed the quota place by a fraction of a point, evincing her high performance level.

This was confirmed by the national para shooting coach, Subhash Rana, who said that this came in view of the wildcard spots successfully applied for after looking at the potential and dedication of Rubina Francis and Swaroop Unhalkar.

In May, Rana was quoted as saying while talking to media:

“Rubina missed winning the quota by a fraction of a point, so we have applied for wildcard for her and Swaroop.”

Rubina Francis and Swaroop Unhalkar prepare for the Paris Paralympics 2024 with decent records

The competition history of Rubina Francis is very unequivocally dense, with participation at the 2018 Asian Para Games and qualification for the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. Given her past success, she is now gearing up for the prestigious Paris Paralympics 2024.

Born in 1999, she currently lies fifth on the list of the International Shooting Sport Federation in Women's 10m Air Pistol SH1.

Swaroop Mahavir Unhalkar, born in 1987, is presently ranked World No. 13 in Men's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1. He was also on record for having represented India in shooting at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, qualified for the final of Men's 10m AR Standing SH1 shooting, and finished fourth with a score of 203.9.

Indian fans will look out if both Rubina Francis and Swaroop Unhalkar will replicate their performances in the Paris Paralympics 2024.
