Prime Minister Narendra Modi has backed the Indian contingent for the Paris Olympics 2024 to display their strength and self-confidence, stressing the importance of youth power which can play a crucial role in the French capital.

Over the years, India has seen a steady increase in its contingent size for the Summer Games. At the time of writing this article, a total of 113 Indian athletes have qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024.

"India is sending a great team to the Paris Olympics. You will see how the entire team and athletes will show their strength. This self-confidence of the youth is the real capital of India, and this youth power shows the biggest potential to take India to new heights in the 21st century," PM Modi addressed the Indian community in Moscow (via ANI).

Indian contingent aims to surpass its best medal tally at Paris Olympics 2024

India had fielded its largest contingent of 124 athletes in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and returned with its best medal tally of seven, including Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal in javelin throw. Indian contingent would be aiming to surpass the medal tally and set a new precedent.

With a few more days left for the Paris 2024, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) would be hoping that more players will be able to make the cut. Paris 2024 will start on July 26 and concludes on August 11.

Furthermore, Modi also hailed the Indian cricket team for showcasing exceptional commitment and attitude throughout the recently concluded T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.

India thoroughly dominated all nations across the World Cup en route to the final. In the nail-biting final, Indian bowlers turned the tables and scripted history to propel India to its second T20 World Cup title win.

On Monday, Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin had informal talks at the Novo-Ogaryovo residence of the Russian president near Moscow.

Notably, Modi paid an official visit to Moscow, Russia on Monday. He was received by Denis Manturov, the first Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, at the Vnukovo-II airport.
