Star Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal has signed a deal with Bank of Baroda as its new brand ambassador. The move comes in alignment with the bank’s aim and philosophy to support talented Indian players.

Nagal is currently the top-ranked Indian singles tennis player with a career-high ATP ranking of 71 (as of June 21, 2024). Bank of Baroda’s MD and CEO, Debadatta Chand, shed light on this collaboration with the 26-year-old Indian tennis player.

"Tennis is a global, highly competitive, and demanding sport, and this makes Sumit’s journey and what he’s aspiring to achieve all the more inspiring and extraordinary. The collaboration between Bank of Baroda and Sumit will also go a long way in promoting the sport in India and helping the Bank reach out to a younger audience," said Chand in a statement.

Nagal, who is all set to feature in the Paris Olympics 2024, expressed his gratitude towards the bank for lending their support.

"I am honored and privileged to be associated with Bank of Baroda and would like to thank them for putting their confidence in me,” said Nagal.

Sumit Nagal joins an elite group of athletes as brand ambassadors for Bank of Baroda, which includes Indian shuttler PV Sindhu and Indian cricketer Shafali Verma.

How did Sumit Nagal qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024?

Sumit Nagal’s journey to the Paris Olympics 2024 was a tough one. The Haryana-born player was ranked 88th before winning the Heilbronner Neckarcup in Germany, where he defeated Alexander Ritschard in the final. This victory propelled him to the 77th spot in the ATP rankings as of June 10.

As per the IOC guidelines, the top 56 players from the ATP rankings gain an automatic qualification for the tournament. However, there is a limit of four players per country, which allowed Sumit Nagal to pave his way through to the mega event.

He is the only men’s singles player from India to feature in the Paris Olympics 2024. This will be Nagal’s second appearance in the Olympics after a second-round finish in Tokyo 2020.
