In a video posted by the Boxing Federation of India on X (formerly Twitter), the Paris-bound boxer and national champion Jaismine Lamboria can be seen practicing sparring with her partner in a preparatory camp in Saarbrücken, Germany. Jaismine made the cut for the Paris Olympics 2024 after her excellent performances in the 2nd World Qualification Tournament in Bangkok in June.

In June, BFI announced that five of the six Paris-bound Indian boxers will head to the Olympic center in Saarbrucken, Germany, for a month-long training camp as part of their final preparations ahead of the quadrennial event in Paris.

Nikhat Zareen (women’s 50kg), Lovlina Borgohain (women’s 75kg), Nishant Dev (men’s 71Kg), Preeti Pawar (women’s 54kg), and Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg) are the five boxers training in Germany. The preparatory camp will end on July 22.

However, CWG champion Amit Panghal (men’s 51kg) will train at the Sports Authority of India’s Shilaroo center with his coaches and support staff from the national camp.

The Indian boxers are currently training alongside the national squads of Ireland, USA, Mongolia, Germany, and Denmark.

Jaismine Lamboria reduced her weight for the Paris Olympics 2024

Jaismine Lamboria’s journey to the Paris Olympics 2024 qualification has been dramatic. She had to overcome an extraordinary hurdle to make it to the Games — cutting down her weight from 60 kg to 57 kg weight class.

Jaismine Lamboria competed in her usual women’s 60 kg category until early 2024 and lost the initial Olympic qualifier in March. However, with India losing the quota place in the women’s 57 kg category after Parveen Hooda’s ban by WADA, the BFI tasked Jaismine with taking up the weight class.

Though she had less time to reduce her weight, she trained hard, cutting down her weight to prepare for a completely new division in the second Olympic qualifier. She bagged the quota in the Qualifier and made the cut for the Games.

Such a transition is a daunting task for any athlete. However, Jaismine took it up and made it look easy.
