Aman Sehrawat became the first Indian wrestler to win a medal at Paris 2024 Olympics yesterday. The 21-year-old won a bronze medal in his first outing at the grand stage as he beat Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz by 13-5 in the bronze medal bout.

Two nights ago, Aman Sehrawat started his Paris 2024 Olympics campaign with convincing victories against Vladimir Egorov and Zelimkhan Abakarov. He suffered a 0-10 defeat in the semifinal against Rei Higuchi but bounced back well to beat Cruz in the bronze medal match.

With this win, India have six medals in Paris 2024 Olympics. Although none of the Indian athletes have won a gold medal so far, the nation has one silver and five bronze medals in the tally.

Aman's performance brought a smile on millions of Indian sports fans. It also continued Indian wrestlers' streak of winning a medal at Olympics. Since 2008, India has won at least one medal in wrestling at every Olympics.

Reacting to the solid performance from Indian wrestlers, a fan labeled the sport as the backbone of sports in the country and wrote:

"Wrestling is the backbone of Indian sports, showcasing our enduring strength and excellence on the world stage. Proud of our champions and their relentless dedication!"

Another X user shared Aman's struggle story and highlighted why the bronze medal was a massive achievement for the wrestler, who also became the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal in individual events.

"Well done, India"- Fans laud Indian men's relay team for impressive performance at Paris 2024 Olympics

Apart from Aman Sehrawat, the Indian athletes were in action in men's and women's 4x400m relay race heats as well. Neither of the two teams could make it to the final, but the men's team of Muhammed Ajmal, Rajesh Ramesh, Amoj Jacob, and Muhammed Anas put up a phenomenal performance, clocking a season best time of 3:00.58, missing the final by only 0.32s.

"Well done, India. They fought really hard in that relay!" a fan wrote on X.

Before that, the Indian women's team of Jyothika Sri Dandi, Poovamma Raju Machettira, Vithya Ramraj, and Subha Venkatesan finished last in their heat with a timing of 3:32.51s in 4x400m relay. Several fans were disappointed with the result, and a fan questioned:

"Are these four the best 400 mtr runners in India? The relay team selections have been strange. Excuses like coordination between runners is given to select mediocre teams for Asiad and Olympics. When will we learn?"

The action will continue in Paris 2024 Olympics today. Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will participate in women's individual stroke play gold round four, while Reetika Hooda will start her campaign in women's 76 kg freestyle wrestling.
