As the Paris 2024 Paralympics move into Day 9, India's medal tally stands at an impressive 25, including 5 golds, 9 silvers, and 11 bronze medals. While the action-packed days are over, the much more relaxed schedule will still have several medal events in which the Indian athletes are in action on Friday, September 6.
A major highlight of Day 9 will be Praveen Kumar’s participation in the Men’s High Jump T64 final. Having already won a silver at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, the young athlete from India will look to better his previous performance by clinching the gold this time.
Meanwhile, Dipesh Kumar will start the day for India in the Men’s Javelin Throw F54 final. Bhavanaben Ajabaji Chaudhary will also aim for a medal in the Women’s Javelin Throw F46 final. India has consistently produced medalists in this sport in recent years, and Kumar and Chaudhary will look to carry on this tradition.
In the Men’s Shot Put F57 final, India’s hopes will be carried by Soman Rana and Hokato Hotozhe Sema. Both athletes have the potential to medal, having finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at the World Championships.
India will also be in contention for a medal in powerlifting as Kasthuri Rajamani competes in the Women’s 67 kg final.
In the track events, Simran Sharma will compete in the Women’s 200m T12 Round 1 and, if qualified, in the semifinals later in the day. Simran is a strong medal contender and has also qualified for the final of the 100m T12 event, which is scheduled for September 7.
Asian Para Games champion Dilip Gavit will participate in the Men’s 400m T47 Round 1, looking to book his spot in the final.
In para-canoeing, two of India’s top athletes, Prachi Yadav and Pooja Ojha, will compete in their respective heats, aiming for a place in the finals. Prachi, who finished eighth in Tokyo, will be hoping to improve her standing this time, while Pooja, a world silver medalist, will also look to make it to the podium.
