Fabian Roth will be HS Prannoy’s first opponent at the Paris Olympics. This match will mark both the shuttlers’ debut at the Games, and the German will be playing as the underdog with nothing to lose.
Roth comes into Paris as the World No.82, but has previously been ranked as high as 34. The German picked up the sport as a child, following in his brothers’ footsteps, and quickly forged a name for himself.
Joining the national team in 2013, the Karlsruhe native first made waves in the international badminton world when he stormed to the boys singles gold at the 2013 European Junior Championships. Fabian Roth is also the champion of the 2015 Hellas International and 2016 Irish Open.
More recently, his performances in 2024 include a round of 16 appearance at the European Championships, a quarterfinal appearance at the Portugal International Championships and a semifinal finish at the Estonia International.
The German is also a four-time bronze medalist at the European Mixed Team Championships and two-time bronze-medalist at the European Men's Team Championships.
Outside of badminton, Roth is an athlete spokesperson at the German Badminton Association and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.
