Round five of the World Championship Tour -the Oakley Pro Bali – continued today with the fourth and fifth rounds of the competition.
Heat one was the pick of the fourth round battles, with defending champion Joel Parkinson facing fellow Australian Taj Burrow and American CJ Hobgood.
Burrow came out on top to advanced to the quarter-finals, whilst Parkinson and Hobgood had one more chance to reach the last eight as they went into the fifth round.
Parkinson made the most of his second opportunity, surfing two perfect waves for a maximum score of 20 in heat one.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Joel Parkinson:“That was incredible. It was just like free surfing. It doesn’t really feel like an event. It just feels like you’re just, it’s just so enjoyable. It was a 35-minute heat, I was just like ‘I don’t want this to end’, it’s just…. You know, there were some more waves out there to be had that were just, tens and even twelves.”
Hobgood also advanced from the fifth round, claiming the scalp of 11-time former world champion Kelly Slater by outscoring the American 17.00 to 14.33.
