Born in the United States on February 9, 2002, Regan Smith swims competitively and represents her nation at the 2020 Summer Olympics, where she won silver at the 200 m butterfly event and at the 4x100 m medley event. Moreover, she also clinched a bronze medal at the 100 m backstroke event.


At the 2019 and 2022 World Aquatics Championships, she took home gold in the 200- and 100-meter backstroke competitions, respectively. As the backstroker in the 4x100 medley relay in 2023, she also won a gold medal in that event. She has also competed collegiately for Stanford University and is currently training with the Arizona State Devils of the Arizona State University.

Bob Bowman’s Coaching Journey

After serving as the swimming team captain during his time in college, Bowman began his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Florida State University. In 1992, Bowman took on the role of head coach and director of the Birmingham Swim League, following brief stops at the Cincinnati Pepsi Marlins and the Napa Valley Swim Team. He was also the US Olympic Team's assistant coach in 2004, 2008 and in 2012 as well.


He has also been part of renowned Universities like University of Michigan, Arizona State University while also having assistant coaching roles with the Las Vegas Golf Swim Team, Birmingham Swim Team and the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. He also served as the CEO of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club between 2008 and 2015.


Bob Bowman’s Accomplishments

Bowman has coached several elite swimmers, including Peter Vanderkaay, Eric Vendt, Kaitlan Sandeno, Chris DeJong, Davis Tarwater, Chris Thompson, and Klete Keller, however, he is best known for his successful development of Phelps. Phelps went on to clinch 23 Olympic gold medals and is widely considered as the greatest swimmer of all time. Notably, he set 39 world records during his playing days.


Bob Bowman as a coach has secured the ASCA Coach of the Year honors five times in his career and also been named as USA Swimming Coach of the Year on six separate occasions. He is also the recipient of the USA Swimming Foundation Golden Goggles Award (four times), USA Swimming Developmental Coach of the Year honors in 2022 and the CSCAA Division I Men's Coach of the Year award winner in 2024.
