May 21, 2010 Achanta Sharat Kamal will spearhead a five-member India team in men’s section in the Liebherr World Table Tennis Championships to be held in Moscow between May 23 and 30. The other members of the men’s team include Soumyadeep Roy, Subhajit Saha and Arputharaj Amalraj Anthony.
As for the women’s team, it will be led by experienced Mouma Das while the other members of the team include Poulomi Ghatak, Shamini Kumaresan, Madhurika Patkar and Divya Deshpande.
The entire Indian contingent will leave for Moscow later on Friday night from Zhengding, China, where it was part of the 22-member squad that was training and competing with the best of Chinese players at the National Centre.
The coaches that will accompany the team to Moscow are Massimo Constatini, the foreign trainer, and Bhavani Mukherjee. A.K. Banerjee and Trideep D will be managers for the men and women teams, respectively.
Ajay Singh Chautala, president of TTFI, will be the leader of the delegation as he will attend the ITTF’s annual general meeting. DR Chaudhary will be one of jury members at the world meet.
The Indians, who are in division 2, will strive hard to reach the top run during the tournament though they will have tough competitors in both Argentina and Belgium in the men’s section. As for women, the Indian paddlers will have a tough time against the Malaysian women.
The men’s team is placed in group E along with Belgium, Argentina, Israel, Canada and Bosnia while the women paddlers find themselves in group H where they will take on Malaysia, Israel, Denmark, Turkey and Portugal.
