Indian paddlers win four golds in Slovakia

Bratislava, Slovakia - Indian paddlers annexed four gold and two silver medals in the Slovak Junior ITTF Open table tennis championship here.

This is a record performance by India in an international tournament abroad.

Sutirtha Mukherjee won the girls singles, girls doubles (with Manika Batra) and girls team event (with Manika Batra and Reeth Tennison) over the weekend.

In the singles final, Manika lost to Sutirtha.

Meanwhile, the Indian boys team won the silver. Sudhanshu Grover and Abhishek Yadav won the boys doubles title beating Brazilian pair Vitor Ishiy and Massao Kohatsu.

Final results:

Girls singles: Sutirtha Mukherjee (India) beat Manika Batra (India) 3-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9.

Girls doubles: Sutirtha Mukherjee and Manika Batra (India) beat Pauline Chasselin and Audrey Zarif (France) 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8.

Boys doubles: Sudhanshu Grover and Abhishek Yadav (India) beat Vitor Ishiy and Massao Kohatsu (Brazil) 11-9, 11-6, 11-13, 8-11, 11-7.

The girls team comprising Sutirtha Mukherjee, Reeth Tennison and Manika Batra won gold while the boys team comprising Abhishek Yadav, Sudhanshu Grover and Raja Kondru won silver.
