The premier table tennis event for the year 2023, ITTF World Table Tennis Championship 2023 is set to take place in South Africa. They were given the event rights after winning the bid against Germany by 90 to 39 votes.
The 57th edition of the tournament will take place from May 20 to May 28 at the Durban International convention centre. The championship will be hosting some of the most prolific players in the current table tennis circuit.
Despite the tournament taking place in Durban, Indian paddlers will receive plenty of support courtesy of Cadbury Dairy Milk’s #CheerForAllSports initiative to have fan walls, which will certainly boost the Indian players’ morales as they receive support from their friends, family and fans from back home.
Indian paddlers will also be gracing the event with their participation. Some of the biggest table tennis sensations will be showing their skills at the 2023 ITTF World Tennis Championship.
The Indian athletes will not only take part in the individual events but in the doubles category too. So it will be an exciting tournament for table tennis enthusiasts in India. The Indian players taking part in the event are:
Men’s Singles Qualifiers: Sharath Kamal Achanta, G Sathiyan, and Manush Shah
Women’s Singles Qualifiers: Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, Sutirtha Mukherjee, and Reeth Tennison.
Men’s Doubles Qualifiers: Sharath-Sathiyan and Hermeet Desai/Manush Shah
Women’s Doubles Qualifiers: Manika Batra/Archana Kamath and Sreeja Akula/Diya Chitale
There are many talented players in each category, representing India. Many experienced paddlers as well as some young guns in the squad will be a big plus for India in the championship.

#1 Manika Batra
Manika Batra, the Indian Table tennis prodigy, has been a precious asset to the sports community of India. Currently ranked 39 in the ITTF rankings, she has been India’s best table tennis player for a long time now. The Delhi girl has won five gold medals at different championships and tournaments for India.
She has won big at major sporting tournaments like the Commonwealth Games and the South Asian Games. Batra has also been awarded the highest national sporting honor in India.
She will be a crucial aspect of India’s campaign at the World Tennis Championship, in 2023. Her technique is amazing and she has fast hands, which makes her quite lethal at this level. Her unconventional backhand makes her unique and she uses it with extreme precision. Hence she will be of prime importance to India in this tournament.
#2 Sharath Kamal
The 10 times Indian senior National Champion, Sharath Kamal will be looking to get going in the ITTF World Table Tennis Championship. The Khel Ratna Award receiver won seven gold medals for India at the International level. He played his first match at the 2003 World Table Tennis Championship.
He has also represented India at international clubs and has professional attachments with a couple of clubs in Germany.
He will be extremely valuable in the Championship for India. He also uses a backhand foregrip and has a good balance which makes him a lethal opponent for any player. He will definitely provide good results for India at the International level.
#3 Sharath-Sathiyan duo
This duo has been exceptional for India at international tournaments. Sharath Kamal Achanta and G Sathiyan have established themselves on the international stage. They have won multiple championships and secured medals at mega events like the Commonwealth Games. The duo has been precise with their shots and manoeuvres due to amazing chemistry.
Both of them have exceptional speed, agility, and a strong backhand. Their ability to adapt to different playing conditions makes them very lethal. The duo will be extremely instrumental for India in the event.
