Still smarting from losing the women's singles title to Ding Ning a day ago, Liu Shiwen found some solace by winning the doubles final on Sunday where she and Zhu Yuling defeated fellow Chinese pair Ding Ning-Li Xiaoxia 4-3 at the World Table Tennis Championships on Sunday.
The all-Chinese clash saw Liu-Zhu beat Ding-Li Xiaoxia 8-11, 11-8, 3-11, 11-8, 11-13, 11-8, 11-8, reports Xinhua.
In Saturday's singles final, second-ranked Liu lost to her top-ranked rival.
“I accepted yesterday's result and that's what competition is about,” said Liu at the post-doubles conference on Sunday.
“Today more people rooted for me and my partner, and I am very grateful. They were sympathising with me for I had lost a close final. This is my first individual world championships title and I really enjoy this stage,” she added.
