Indian women’s singles paddlers had a poor outing at the China Smash’s opening round of the main draw at Shijingshan Shougang Park Beijing, China on Sunday, September 29.
The male paddlers are yet to start their campaign in the main draw. Sharath Kamal and Manav Thakkar, who received a direct bye into the main draw will open their campaigns on Monday (September 30) at the China Smash 2024.
Harmeet Desai, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Snehit Suravajjula, and Manush Shah crashed out in the men's singles qualification round.
On the other hand, Indian women paddlers suffered an early exit from the competition. Star paddlers Sreeja Akula and Manika Batra suffered defeats against Miu Hirano and Mimi Ito, respectively. Both Indian players lost their matches in straight sets 3-0.
Ayhika Mukherjee, Sutirtha Mukherjee, Yashaswini Ghorpade, and Diya Parag also crashed out, exiting the competition in the qualification round.
The Indian men's pair of Manush Shah and Manav Thakar received a bye in the men's doubles Round of 32. They will be competing in the Round of 16 directly and will look to make an impact.
The mixed doubles duo of Diya Parag and Manush Shah also secured a bye in the Round of 32. The Indian pair will compete in the pre-quarter-final round.
Moreover, in women's doubles, Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee are scheduled to play Lee Ho Ching and Chen Szu-Yu in the Round of 32 contest on Monday, September 30.
Indian paddler Mudit Dani will pair up with Taehyun Kim in the China Smash 2024. They will be up against Aditya Sareen and Santiago Lorenzo in the men's doubles event.
