Indian men’s singles paddlers had a tough outing on the fifth day of the ongoing China Smash 2024 at Shijingshan Shougang Park in Beijing, China, on Monday, September 30.
Veteran paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal bowed out of China Smash in the Round of 64 after suffering a defeat to Australia’s Aditya Sareen.
Sharath Kamal started the contest with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of winning the first game 11-9. However, Aditya quickly made a strong comeback to level the score 1-1 after two games. The Aussie paddler continued his good run by winning two more consecutive games to end the match by 3-1 in his favor.
On the other hand, Manav Thakkar also faced an early exit, losing to Chinese paddler Zeng Beixum 0-3. Unfortunately, Manav couldn’t create enough momentum right from the start of the match and as a result, lost the Round-of-64 match.
In women’s doubles, the Indian duo of Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee registered an exceptional 3-0 win against Lee Ho Ching and Chen Szu Yu.
Despite a tough fight from the opposition, the Indian pair managed to pull off a clean sweep in the match. They won the first and third games with twin scores of 11-9 and secured an easy 11-4 victory in the second game.
The Indian pair of Manush Shah and Manav Thakkar received a bye in the men's doubles Round of 32. Meanwhile, Diya Parag and Manush Shah will take on Chinese pair Xue Fei and Qian Tianyi in the mixed doubles Round-of-16 match on Tuesday (October 1).
