New Delhi, Jan 9: Soumyajit Ghosh of BPCL and K. Shamini of IOCL clinched the men's and women's titles respectively after hard-fought final seven-game battles at the 34th APSPB Inter Unit Table Tennis Tournament.
In the women's single final, Shamini edged past title favourite and Arjuna Awardee Mouma Das (OIL) 4-3 (6-11, 9-11, 13-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-2). She won the third game after losing the first two but then dropped the fourth to trail 1-3. At that stage, a comeback seemed an impossible task for Shamini, but she played some exquisite table tennis to pocket the next three games and emerged champion.
The men's singles summit clash saw Ghosh get the better of the experienced Soumyadeep Roy (IOCL) in the decider after the duo were tied 2-3.
Ghosh was quite brilliant in the last game as he surged to a five point lead and then retained the issue to close the issue (11-4, 11-13, 11-9, 7-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-3).
