Mumbai - Top seed Shweta Parte was given a tough time by Akashi Sancheti from Andhra Pradesh as the match stretched to the wire before Shweta prevailed 7-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8 to move into the womens’ singles final of the JVPGC-All Mumbai 4-star ranking table tennis tournament here Sunday.
The 15-year-old Akashi showed a lot of confidence as she hit some fine forehands which upset Shweta’s rhythm. But Shweta with her experience turned the tables on Akashi.
Later, Shweta also made the last four of the youth girls singles overcoming sub-junior girls champion Payal Bohra1 1-6, 11-6, 11-8, 11-4.
Shweta was joined by Charvi Kawle who thrashed Srushti Haleangadi 11-4, 11-7, 11-3, 11-6. Others to make the semi-final Senhora D’Souza winning 11-5,12-10, 11-4, 3-11, 12-10 over Ashlesha Trehan and Akashi Sancheti who defeated Shenali Bagwe 11-3, 11-4, 11-3,11-6.
The top two seeds Nishaad Shah and Ravindra Kotian easily beat their respective opponents to reach the junior boys singles final.
Nishaad beat Rhys Albuquerque 11-4, 14-12, 11-5, 11-7 while Ravindra downed Shaun Rebello 11-6, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6.
In the men’s singles, top seeds Sanil Shetty and Amal Balgu made easy work of Niloy Basak and Noel Pinto on their way to the final.
