Rupa Bayor scripted history after breaking into the top 10 of the World Taekwondo Poomsae Rankings. She is currently ranked ninth globally, accumulating 82.92 points.
Interestingly, Rupa was ranked 123rd in the World Taekwondo Rankings in 2021. She made an exceptional jump to the 42nd position in 2022 and later rocketed to the 12th position in 2023. Her recent impressive performances helped her to propel into the top 10.
It’s worth noting that this surge in her rankings also made her the top-ranked Asian Taekwondo athlete in the Poomsae category among women, making her one of the continent’s top athletes in the sport.
Rupa Bayor notably moved past Japan's Yuiko Niwa, Belgium's Axelle Bonnez, and Costa Rica's Maria Paula Salas to ascend three ranks and settle for the ninth position in the newly released rankings.

Rupa Bayor secured a silver medal in the U30 poomsae event at the Australian Open in Brisbane last month. She defeated four of her opponents during the competition on her way to the final before settling for a loss in the gold medal contest.
The Australian Open 2024 is a World Taekwondo (WT) G2-sanctioned ranking event recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Singapore clinched the gold medal while Chinese Taipei and Australia secured two bronze medals.
In Poomsae, athletes have to perform a sequence of techniques like gymnastics. The final results will be evaluated by a judging panel. Poomsae, a category of Taekwondo, is yet to be included in the Olympics but is part of the Asian Games curriculum.
Hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, Rupa spends most of her time at the Indo-Korean Taekwondo Academy in Mumbai with her coach Abhishek Dubey. She idolizes six-time world champion boxer MC Mary Kom.
Rupa secured a bronze medal at the eighth Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in May 2024. In July 2023, she bagged two silver medals and a bronze in Australia. Rupa also racked up a gold medal in February 2023 in the WT President's Cup in Istanbul, Turkiye.
