1) 3/3 for Wawrinka
31-year-old Stanislas Wawrinka had reached two Grand Slam finals before this year’s US Open and had won both of them. He kept his 100% record unblemished after a 4-set victory over Novak Djokovic and denied the Serb a third major title this year. Though Wawrinka lost the first set, he played scintillating tennis to take the next 3 and clinch a 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 win. In the process, he became the oldest champion in New York since 35-year-old Ken Rosewall in 1970.
Djokovic had to resort to a dubious medical timeout in the final but could not overcome the conviction of the Swiss who landed his third Grand Slam of his career.
