Two-time defending champion Roger Federer beat Spaniard David Ferrer in his third round-robin match at the 2012 ATP Finals in London to qualify for his 11th semifinal at the season-ending tournament.
In the process, Federer moved past Ivan Lendl (39) as the player with the most wins at the ATP Finals.

Making his 19th consecutive appearance at the grass-court Major, Federer beat Marin Cilic in straight sets in the final to become the first player since Bjorn Borg (1976) to win Wimbledon without dropping a set.
In the process, the Swiss maestro also became the first eight-time champion at Wimbledon.
In 2019, Federer became the first Wimbledon finalist in 71 years to squander match points, as he went down to Novak Djokovic in a historic first-ever Wimbledon match featuring a fifth set tiebreak.
