In a thrilling semifinal, 16th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated 8th seed Rafael Nadal 6-4 0-6 7-5 in three cracking sets to progress through to the final of the Shanghai Masters on Saturday.
The opening set saw both players hold to serve until the fifth game when the Frenchman broke the Spaniard’s serve. He continued to maintain his grip on the game, firing a total of 6 aces during the course of the set to eventually seal it 6-4.
The second set saw total domination from Nadal, who stormed his way back into the contest, breaking Tsonga’s serve in the second game and crushing his way through the rest of the set to take it 6-0.
The decider proved to be an absolute thriller, particularly towards the end, as after holding on for the first 10 games, Tsonga eventually broke through to lead 6-5 and then closed the set and the match of his next serve to win 7-5 and progress through to the final.
