The pair met for the first time on tour in the second round of the 2009 Australian Open, where defending champion Djokovic emerged victorious 7-5, 6-1, 6-3.

Djokovic beat Chardy 6-1, 7-6(2) in his latest meeting with the Frenchman, in the second round of the 2019 Madrid Masters - where the Serb went on to lift his 34th Masters 1000 title.

In their first career meeting, in the opening round of the 2005 US Open, Monfils extended the Serb to five sets before eventually losing.

Monfils couldn't have been in better form for the pair's 17th match - the upcoming semifinals of the Dubai Open. The Frenchman has won back-to-back tournaments (Montpellier and Rotterdam) for the first time in his career, and is riding winning streaks of 12 matches and 24 sets.

However, Djokovic himself is on a stellar run of his own, having won all his 16 matches in the 2020 season. He would fancy his chances of extending his perfect record for the season against a player he has never lost to in 16 previous meetings.
