The 2024 tennis season ended with the Jannik Sinner-led Italy winning the Davis Cup for the second successive time in November. It was a year with its fair share of drama and upsets. However, the top players in the world managed to maintain their supremacy more or less during the course of the year.

It is not a very easy job to pick the top five players of the year. There will be very few unanimous choices in this list. There will still be a few others who have made a satisfactory claim for making the list. Let us get on with our task.

#5. Taylor Fritz

Taylor Fritz attained a career-high ranking of world No. 4 this year and managed to finish his season with the same ranking. He also ended the year as the top-ranked male tennis player from the United States. Fritz won a couple of ATP 250 titles in Eastbourne and Delray Beach, thereby strengthening his claim to be one of the best players in the world on faster courts.

Fritz also reached the final at the US Open and the ATP Finals, and ended the year with a 53-23 win-loss record, which gives him almost a 70% winning ratio.

#4. Alexander Zverev

Zverev was among the prolific tennis players among men in 2024, playing in a whopping 90 matches. He won 69 of those matches, giving him a 76% winning rate. That is a fine record for a player who made his comeback last year following a long injury lay-off.

The 27-year-old German won a couple of important Masters 1000 titles in 2024, in Rome and Paris. Zverev's impressive form on clay saw him reach the final of French Open as well, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a tough five-setter.

#3. Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic undoubtedly had a somewhat underwhelming year, failing to win any ATP title. However, winning the Olympic Gold in singles in Paris must have made amends for him in an emphatic way. He also reached the semifinal of Australian Open and the Wimbledon final, thus proving that he is still a force to be reckoned with despite approaching 38.

Djokovic finished with a 37-9 win-loss record, with the winning ratio being a little more than 80%. The Serb might be declining as a player, which is natural for a player of his age, but he still remains among the best in the world.

#2. Carlos Alcaraz

It is a pity that a player has to finish in second place despite winning two Grand Slams this year. Alcaraz won the Channel Slam as the youngest man ever, beating Bjorn Borg's record.

He thrashed Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, thereby successfully defending his crown. He beat Zverev in the French Open final. The Spaniard also finished the year with a 54-13 win-loss record and the world No. 3 ranking. He also won a couple of Masters 1000 titles in 2024, at Indian Wells and Beijing, but lost in the final of the Paris Olympics to Djokovic.

#1. Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner was inarguably the best performing male player in 2024. He won eight ATP titles during the year, including the Australian Open, US Open, Cincinnati Masters, Miami Open, Shanghai Masters, and ATP Finals. He also cemented his status as the best hardcourt player in the world, replacing Djokovic.

He also had the upper-hand over his arch-rival Alcaraz during the year. Sinner had mind-boggling win-loss record of 73-6 in 2024, giving him a 92% winning ratio. The Italian quite deservedly attained the No. 1 ranking in the world and looks almost unstoppable going into next season.
