Alexander Zverev
Alexander ‘Sascha’ Zverev Jr. is considered something of a wonderkid on the tennis circuit, having made three ATP Finals this year and winning his debut title at the St. Petersburg Open. All of 19-years-old, Zverev defeated an in-form Stan Wawrinka, fresh off his own US Open title, for that win.
Zverev comes from a tennis-playing family that got their careers underway much before Zverev was even born. His father, Alexander Zverev Sr, represented the erstwhile Soviet Union in tennis in the late 1970s and was extremely successful at the Summer Universiade for a number of years.
Although the older Zverev was active mostly on the Challenger circuit, he played a number of Grand Slams in his time, where he faced early ousters. He is married to former tennis professional Irina Zvereva, and the two had son Mikhail ‘Mischa’ Zverev before emigrating to Germany, which is the country Mischa represents. Son Alexander Zverev Jr was born there, and represents Germany professionally.
