A Preview of the second week - Wimbledon 2012

After a tremendous first week, Wimbledon advances into the second and last week of the tournament. There is no doubt that it is a ground for new players to prove their potential and surprisingly enough, some good players did shock the world with their performance.

When action resumes on Monday with all 16 men’s and women’s fourth-round matches, what could Week 2 possibly have in store to equal what the first six days offered?

There was two-time champion Rafael Nadal‘s loss in the second round to an unknown player ranked 100th — LukasRosol, who was beaten in his next match.

There was five-time champion Venus Williams’ departure on Day 1; the only other time in 16 appearances at Wimbledon that she lost in the first round was during her debut in 1997 at age 17. Her younger sister, four-time champion, Serena, is still around, but only barely. She pounded a tournament-record 23 aces to escape the third round with a 9-7 third-set victory.

The outlook calls for a 60 or 70 percent chance of rain Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Players to watch out for

Roger Federer: The six time Wimbledon title holder, began this year’s Wimbledon journey with two back to back easy wins, but almost lost in the match against Julien Benneteau. In the first two sets the French player, Benneteau, was leading the game but it wasn’t long before Federer hit back with his magic and beat him to go to the fourth round.

On Monday, the Swiss will face Belgium’s Xavier Malisse, who played really well in the first three games. All we have to do is wait and watch if Federer can make it to the England court for the 7th time or not ?

Novak Djokovic: The former Wimbledon title holder, Novak Djokovic, who sailed through the first three rounds of matches, will face his countryman Viktor Troicki in the fourth round.

Andy Murray: The Scottish player after having two good matches will face Marin Cilic. The number four seed is well prepared for having a tight match.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga: The French player, who beat Federer last year in the quarter final, will play his forth round against Mardy Fish. This will be a good match to see the number five seed will take the number ten seed.

Maria Sharapova: The Russian will compete with Sabine Lisicki in the fourth round after three easy wins. After returning from her hand treatment, she won the French Open title earlier last month with some good tennis. We’ll have to see whether the number one seed can win two back to back titles or not .

Serena Williams: The 2010 England champion will face Kazakhstani Yaroslava Shvedova, after her sister was knocked out of the tournament.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to win a point in the set,” Williams said, looking ahead and keeping a straight face. “That will be my first goal, and then I’ll go from there.”

.”Everyone is playing everyone tough nowadays,” Serena Williams said. “You can’t underestimate anyone.”

Petra Kvitova: The former Wimbledon champion is showing good form. The Czech Republican defended all games in this year’s Wimbledon without any effort. On Monday she will face Francesca Schiavone to fight for qualification for the quarter finals.

Tamira Paszek: The Austrian player, who put up a tremendous performance in the first three rounds, will compete with Roberta Vinci on Monday.
