Belinda Bencic vs Anna Kalinskaya prediction
Kalinskaya's higher ranking and Bencic's considerable absence from the WTA Tour might give the former an edge. That said, we all know what quality of tennis the Swiss is capable of producing on her day, so she should not be written off.
Bencic won 54 out of 75 points (72%) on her first serve during the Adelaide International qualifiers and served two aces while accumulating three double-faults. The Swiss' return numbers weren't bad either, as she won 49 out of 93 points. She was particularly good on her opponents' second serve, winning 26 out of 37 points there.
Bencic plays aggressively but is also a pretty effective counterpuncher when needed, not to forget she also possesses a wide variety of shots, which she will look to make the most of.
Kalinskaya had a poor first-serve record in her match against Ashlyn Krueger in Brisbane, winning just 19 out of 32 points (59.4%). Interestingly, the Russian had a relatively better record on her second serve, as she won 10 out of 16 points (62.5%).
The Russian is a powerful hitter and will look to attack from the start of the match to create pressure on Bencic. However, she will have to be careful not to produce too many unforced errors.
This match could be the perfect opportunity for Bencic to show that she is still an opponent to be wary of. However, form-wise, there is a good chance for Kalinskaya to come out on top.
Pick: Kalinskaya to win in straight sets.
