Denis Shapovalov produced indifferent performances for most of the 2024 season. However, the former Top-10 player ended the season on a high, as he won his second career title at the Serbia Open, with a win over Hamad Medjedovic in the final.

2025 did not begin well for Shapovalov. He lost in the first round at the Hong Kong Open, losing 2-6, 3-6 to a returning Kei Nishikori.

Meanwhile, 2024 was a breakthrough year for Zhang Zhizhen as the Chinese player reached his maiden final on the ATP Tour in Hangzhou. He also was part of the mixed doubles team that bagged the silver medal for China at the Paris Olympics.

Zhang started his 2025 season with a team competition at the United Cup. He started off with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 win over Thiago Monteiro of Brazil. He then won the first set over Alexander Zverev, in the next round, but lost the match 6-2, 0-6, 6-2. In the quarterfinal, Zhang lost 4-6, 4-6 to Taylor Fritz as China crashed out of the competition.
