It will be an all-American final in WTA Adelaide with Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys will be contesting for their first title of the season on Saturday, January 11.
Top seed Pegula has had an easier journey to the final, as she got a bye in the first round and then registered a straight sets 6-4, 6-1 win against the former World No. 3 Maria Sakkari in the second round.
In the quarterfinal, Pegula was against another compatriot Ashlyn Krueger, who retired after just 48 minutes when the former was leading 6-4, 2-0. In the semifinal, Pegula won 7-6(4), 6-3 against Yulia Putintseva.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Keys started her Adelaide campaign with a 6-2, 6-1 first-round win against Beatriz Haddad Maia. She then defeated the eighth seed Jelena Ostapenko 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 with a comeback after being a set down.
In the quarterfinal, Madison Keys knocked out the third seed 6-1, 6-3 in just 58 minutes. Jessica Pegula vs Madison Keys prediction
Jessica Pegula would be the favorite to win her first WTA title in Australia, and her first WTA title since winning the Canadian Open in 2024. She lost the Cincinnati Open and US Open finals to World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and would be itching to snap her losing streak in WTA finals.
Meanwhile, the 2022 Adelaide champion, Madison Keys has won her last three finals in a row and would be looking for a ninth WTA title. However, if the match goes to three sets, fatigue could come into consideration as Madison Keys not only entered the tournament unseeded but also had a relatively difficult run. She had to play four matches whereas Jessica Pegula got a bye in the first round, which might give the latter some more energy to tilt the momentum in her favor.
Pick: Jessica Pegula to win in three sets
