Alex de Minaur vs Tristan Boyer preview
Eighth seed Alex de Minaur will lock horns with qualifier Tristan Boyer in the second round of the Australian Open 2025.
De Minaur's first-round opponent was Botic van de Zandschulp. The Aussie cruised through the opening set and claimed it for the loss of only one game. He was in control of the second set until his opponent started to fight back.
De Minaur gave up his early break advantage and then had to save two set points on his own serve at 5-4. That close shave caused him to immediately raise his level, and he nabbed the next two games to take the set. The two were on even footing for most of the third set, and then the home favorite sprinted to the finish line with a three-game run for a 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 win.
Boyer beat Rei Sakamoto, Marcelo Barrios Vera, and Christopher Eubanks to secure his place in the main draw for his Major debut in singles. He was up against Federico Coria in the first round.
Boyer stunned his experienced opponent by bagging the first set. Coria was quick to regroup and captured the next two sets. After falling behind 4-2 in the fourth set, it looked like the American's debut would with a loss.
However, Boyer swept five of the next six games to snatch the set from Coria and keep himself in contention. Energized by his turnaround in the previous set, he dropped only one game in the decider to score a 6-3, 6-7 (3), 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 win.
Alex de Minaur vs Tristan Boyer head-to-head
This will be the first career meeting between the two, so the head-to-head stands at 0-0 for now.

Alex de Minaur vs Tristan Boyer prediction
Except for a brief stumble in the second set, de Minaur was rock steady in the first round. He had a pretty good day on serve and won 81 percent of his first serve points. He was also solid from the back of the court and hit 26 winners, though his unforced error count exceeded it by a slim margin.
Boyer's determination was on full display in the first round as he made a winning debut at the Majors. However, he will find de Minaur to be a step up in terms of quality compared to Coria, who often plays his best tennis on clay.
De Minaur hasn't lost before the third round of the Australian Open since 2019. Boyer could be the one to keep an eye out for in the future, although for now, his journey is likely to come to an end at the hands of the World No. 8.
Pick: Alex de Minaur to win in straight sets.
