Andy Murray’s wife Kim has given birth to the couple’s first child, a daughter, in London, where the couple reside, the BBC have reported. Artist Kim married the World No. 2 last year in Murray's hometown of Dunblane in Scotland in early 2015 after the couple having been together for over a decade.
Kim is the daughter of former tennis player Nigel Sears, who currently coaches former World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic and over a long coaching career has been the coach of Daniela Hantuchova, and was recently reappointed to coach her after initially being sacked by the Serb.
Sears recently took ill at the Australian Open, suffering from heatstroke with Ivanovic playing American Madison Keys on court, while his own son-in-law, Murray was playing on another court.
Murray had earlier said he would fly back immediately from the Australian Open if his wife were to go into labour, saying they were his “absolute priority.”
The Scot made the finals of the Australian Open for a second year in a row this year, facing the same opponent as he did in 2015 – World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, losing to the reigning champion in straight sets. It was the fifth time Murray had reached the finals in Melbourne, a venue he has been unable to win the singles trophy at.
Murray thanked his wife in an emotional speech after collecting his runners-up trophy at the Australian Open, describing her as an “absolute legend” and saying he would be on the “next flight home.”
