Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev preview
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will take on former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev in the group stage of the ATP Finals 2024.
Sinner began his quest for a maiden ATP Finals title with a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex de Minaur. He then faced Taylor Fritz in his second group tie in a re-match of their US Open showdown for the title, which was won by the Italian.
The outcome was the same this time as Sinner asserted his supremacy in this rivalry. He broke Fritz's serve once in each set to register a 6-4, 6-4 victory, and his third consecutive win over the American as well.
Medvedev slumped to a 6-4, 6-3 loss against Fritz in his opening match of the round-robin phase. He was up against de Minaur in his second group tie and needed to win the match to keep his campaign afloat.
Medvedev was off to a quick start and broke de Minaur's serve twice to claim the first set. He faced some resistance from his younger rival in the second set. However, he still managed to snag a break, and it proved to be enough for him to secure a 6-2, 6-4 win.

Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev prediction
The math is pretty straightforward for Sinner, a win sends him through to the semifinals regardless of the outcome of the other match. Medvedev, meanwhile, ideally needs to win in straight sets, and hope for a favorable outcome in the other group tie between Fritz and de Minaur.
Medvedev initially dominated this rivalry and won his first six encounters against Sinner. However, the latter has turned the match-up on its head and has won seven of their last eight matches.
The two have faced off five times this year, with Sinner winning all four of their matches on hardcourts, while Medvedev's only win came on grass. The Russian's best shot at winning was at the Australian Open, where he led by two sets to love in the final before losing the match.
Their most recent tussle in Shanghai wasn't that competitive. Medvedev failed to break Sinner's serve even once and was outplayed from the baseline as well. Given how the Italian has dominated this match-up in the past year, he's unlikely to throw a stinker now, that too in front of his home crowd.
Pick: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
