#3. Shanghai is the only tournament where no player has won their first Masters 1000 title
Of the 9 tournaments which comprise the ATP Masters 1000 series, Shanghai (2009 onwards) is the only one not to have produced a first-time Masters 1000 titlist.
In 10 editions of the tournament as part of the Masters 1000 series, Djokovic (4), Murray (3), Federer (2), Nikolay Davydenko (1), and Daniil Medvedev (1) have emerged as the winners.
Roberto Bautista Agut (2016; lost to Murray) and Borna Coric (2018; lost to Djokovic) are the two first-time Masters 1000 finalists to have faltered in the Shanghai final.
#4. Jim Courier has the most Masters 1000 titles without losing a final
At the 1993 Rome Masters, Jim Courier won his 5th Masters 1000 title in as many attempts. This makes Courier the only player in the series history to win his first 5 Masters 1000 title matches.
The American is one of only two players, the other being Nikolay Davydenko (3/3), to have a perfect record after playing multiple Masters 1000 finals.
To put the achievement into perspective, the 3 most successful players in Masters 1000 history - Nadal (2005 Miami), Djokovic (2007 Indian Wells), and Federer (2002 Miami) each lost their respective first finals in the tournament category.
