
With the commencement of 2025, the ATP has released a new set of men's singles tennis rankings. The Italian did lose 400 points as he could not defend his semifinal run in Monte Carlo last year, dropping his overall tally to 9930 points, still 2000 points ahead of Alcaraz in second place. However, the Italian still lost around 400 points as he was not able to defend his Monte Carlo title, thus dropping his overall ranking points. He also won the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals. With Alexander Zverev winning the 2025 BMW Open and Carlos Alcaraz losing in the final of the 2025 Barcelona Open to Holger Rune, Zverev regained the No. 2 spot in the ranking list by replacing Spanish sensation Alcaraz from the list.
