Carlos Alcaraz vs Nuno Borges preview
World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz will take on Nuno Borges in the third round of the Australian Open 2025.
Alcaraz commenced his quest for a maiden title in Melbourne with a 6-1, 7-5, 6-1 win over Alexander Shevchenko. He was up against Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round. The first set was a walk in the park for the Spaniard, who didn't lose a single game in it and lost only four points throughout the set.
Alcaraz continued to pummel his opponent in the second set as well, though this time he conceded a game en route to claiming the set. Nishioka raised his level in the third set but it wasn't enough to stop the four-time Major champion, who sealed a 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 win.
Borges rallied from a set down to beat Alexandre Muller 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the second round, where he faced 27th seed Jordan Thompson. The Portuguese player handled whatever his opponent threw at him with ease, and a single break of serve in his favor helped him bag the first set.
Borges continued to dictate the play in the second set and broke Thompson's serve twice to take the set. He didn't show any signs of nerves in the third set and wrapped up the proceedings comfortably to score a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 win.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Nuno Borges prediction
Alcaraz is looking in dangerous form this week and made Nishioka look like a club player in the previous round. He didn't face a single break point and won 89 percent of his first serve points. He also struck 36 winners and had only 16 unforced errors in comparison.
Borges didn't lose his serve in the previous round against Thompson, though he did face four break points, which he fended off with ease. He won 74 percent of points on the back of his first serve and hit 31 winners against 26 unforced errors.
Alcaraz dropped only four games against Borges en route to the Barcelona Open title in 2023, their only prior encounter. The young Spaniard's new service motion has been the talk of the talk, and it has yielded great results thus far.
Borges also has a 0-10 record against the top 10 players, and except for one match, has lost in straight sets on every other occasion. It will be quite difficult for him to snap this losing streak given how well Alcaraz is playing this week.
Pick: Carlos Alcaraz to win in straight sets.
