Elina Svitolina vs Veronika Kudermetova prediction
Svitolina will enter the match as the favorite to win but Kudermetova should not be written off as she has won all of her prior matches against the Ukrainian and will be high on confidence after wins over two seeded opponents.
The 28th seed has decent numbers on her first serve so far during the Australian Open, as she has won 87 out of 110 points (79.1%), serving 16 aces. She also served 12 double faults and will have to be careful not to serve too many of those. The Ukrainian hit 85 winners, which is slightly higher than her unforced error count of 73.
Svitolina's defensive baseline game will be a good counter for Kudermetova's aggression, and her swift transitions to offense will also come in very handy. The Ukrainian has had a few aces and will be eager to get more of those against the Russian.
Kudermetova has won 84 out of 118 points (71.1%) on her first serve during the Australian Open so far, and she served nine aces. The Russian has also served 70 winners while producing 76 unforced errors. Kudermetova will have to be solid on her serve and cannot afford to have it broken, if she is to beat Svitolina.
The Ukrainian may not have beaten Kudermetova yet but given her recent performances, there is a fair chance of her coming out on top and reaching her third Australian Open quarterfinal.
Pick: Svitolina to win in three sets.
