Jack Draper vs Mariano Navone preview
World No. 15 Jack Draper will take on Argentina's Mariano Navone in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday, 13 January.
The 23-year-old Brit will be playing his first event of the season as he could not play the United Cup or any other event in the last two weeks after suffering a hip injury during the off-season.
The last few months of 2024 were great for Draper, as he reached the semifinals at the 2024 US Open and then won his maiden ATP 500 title in Vienna in the month of October. Draper finished his 2024 season with a round of 16 loss against Alex de Minaur in Paris.
On the other hand, Navone is a claycourt specialist, like most of his countrymen and has not been able to impress on the hard courts at the ATP events.
23-year-old Navone started his 2025 season in Brisbane, where he went down 5-7, 6-7(7) against Chile's Nicolas Jarry. His next stop was Auckland, where he won in the first round against Adrian Mannarino 7-6(6), 6-7(5) and 6-1. But then he lost in the second round to Portugal's Nuno Borges 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Jack Draper vs Mariano Navone head-to-head
Draper leads his opponent 1-0 in their head-to-head record, as their only previous meeting was on a grass court in Queen's Club, London. Draper won it in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

Jack Draper vs Mariano Navone prediction
Draper has won only one match in his last two appearances at the Melbourne Park, but he is a much better player now, so he can be expected to win at least a couple of matches at the Australian Open.
According to Draper, he struggled in Melbourne's hot weather in his last two appearances, but this time he is mentally and physical ready, as he had practice sessions with World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic.
Meanwhile, World No. 46 Navone is making his first main round appearance at the Melborne Park. Last year, he could not win a match in the Australian Open qualifying round.
Navone's record at the ATP events on hard courts is not impressive at all, as he has only been able to win only four of the last 16 ATP matches he has played on the surface.
Pick: Draper to win in straight sets
