Former World No. 3 Maria Sakkari will take on Colombia's Camila Osorio in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday, 13 January.

Sakkari missed the last three months of the 2024 season after suffering an injury at the US Open. On her return, the Greek has not had the best of starts to the new season. At the 2025 United Cup, Maria Sakkari lost to Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in straight sets 2-6, 1-6, before losing her second match to World No. 6 Elena Rybakina 4-6, 3-6.
The 29-year-old entered the qualifying draw at the WTA Adelaide 500 and her first-round opponent, Saisai Zheng retired when the score was 6-2, 4-0 in Sakkari's favor. In the final qualifying round, she went down against Peyton Stearns 4-6, 7-6(10), 3-6. Sakkari entered the main draw as a lucky loser and knocked out the World No. 30 Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-3, before losing to the top seed Jessica Pegula 4-6, 1-6.
Meanwhile, Camila Osorio played her first event of the season at Hobart this week and defeated eighth seed Yue Yuan 6-2, 6-3 in the first round. The Colombian lost the second round to Veronika Kudermetova 4-6, 1-6. Osorio's 2024 performances on the hard court were not impressive either, as she failed to reach any WTA final on the surface.
