Matteo Berrettini vs Cameron Norrie preview
Former top 10 players Matteo Berrettini and Cameron Norrie will clash in the first round of the Australian Open 2025.
Following an injury layoff, Berrettini returned to the tour in March 2024. He won three titles from four finals during the season, all on clay. Despite expanding his trophy collection, he didn't taste much success on the biggest stages of the sport.
The Italian failed to advance beyond the second round at any of the Majors or Masters 1000 tournaments he competed in and had a combined 3-7 record at that level. He started the new season with an appearance at the Brisbane International, where he lost to Jordan Thompson in the first round despite winning the first set.
Norrie had a decent start to the 2024 season, with a fourth-round showing at the Australian Open and a semifinal finish at the Rio Open. He struggled for months after that and then went on an injury hiatus starting in July. He returned to the tour in October, and after a couple of losses, reached the final of the Moselle Open, where he lost to Benjamin Bonzi.
Norrie's first tournament of 2025 was the Hong Kong Open, where he lost to Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals. He took a step back after a promising start as he crashed out in the first round of the ASB Classic the following week.

Matteo Berrettini vs Cameron Norrie prediction
Both players dealt with their share of injury woes last year. Berrettini was able to outperform Norrie after his return to the tour and had a 32-13 record. The Brit, meanwhile, had a 21-18 record last year.
Neither of them has shined that brightly at the Australian Open consistently. Berrettini did reach the semifinals here in 2022 but his overall record at the venue stands at 9-5. Norrie progressed to the fourth round in Melbourne for the first time last year and has a 7-6 record here.
Their only previous encounter took place on grass back in 2021. It was a fight to the finish, and Berrettini was the last man left standing. His big-serving and ferocious forehand trumped the Brit's counterpunching. While the Italian hasn't had the best start to the new season, he should be able to handle whatever Norrie throws at him to make a winning start here.
Pick: Matteo Berrettini to win in four sets.
