Nick Kyrgios vs Jacob Fearnley preview
Nick Kyrgios will take on Jacob Fearnley in the first round of the Australian Open. The winner of the match will take on either 28th seed Sebastian Baez or Arthur Cazaux in the second round of the Melbourne Major.
Kyrgios returned to tennis after a lengthy hiatus from the sport that lasted over a year-and-a half. The 29-year-old competed at the Brisbane International and faced Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first round. The Aussie put up a tough fight but eventually, the Frenchman prevailed after winning 7-6(2), 6-7(4), 7-6(3).
Jacob Fearnley's only tournament before the Australian Open came at a Challenger event in Canberra, where he was seeded sixth. The Brit started his run by beating Mark Dellavedova 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 and he followed this up with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over James Kent Trotter to book his place in the quarterfinals.
Here, he faced Christopher Eubanks and came back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(3) and set up a semifinal clash against Joao Fonseca. The Brazilian won 6-3, 6-3 to eliminate Fearnley from the tournament.

Nick Kyrgios vs Jacob Fearnley prediction
Kyrgios' experience makes him the favorite entering the match. However, there have been fitness concerns regarding the Aussie over the past few days, and things could get troubling for the 29-year-old if he is not fully fit.
Kyrgios is a powerful hitter and has an extremely solid forehand, but his biggest strength lies in his serve, which fetched him 15 aces in his Brisbane International first-round fixture. There's also his underarm serve that can baffle his opponents, along with other sudden shots that can trigger sudden pace changes in a rally.
Jacob Fearnley served 30 aces in his last tournament and will look to fetch as many free points as he can against Kyrgios. The Brit is also a pretty aggressive player and will look to keep the Aussie under pressure.
Despite Kyrgios' long absence from tennis, his overall experience, along with the crowd support should see him come out on top and reach the second round of the Australian Open.
Pick: Kyrgios to win in straight sets.
