Melbourne - Third seeds Sania Mirza and Bob Bryan cruised into the second round of the mixed doubles at the Australian Open here Friday with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Australia’s Samantha Stosur and Luke Saville.
The Indo-American pair took just 50 minutes to dispatch the local team to set up a clash against the winners of the match between the Abigail Spears-Scott Lipsky and Raquel Jones-Treat Conrad Huey.
Sania and Bob converted all three break points and saved two chances on their own serve in the opening set to take the lead. In the second set, the third seeds converted two of the three chances and saved one breakpoint to seal the victory.
Sania, who also took part in the women’s doubles, and her American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands crashed out in the first round, losing to Spaniards Silvia Soler Espinosa and Carla Suarez Navarro 6-7 (4-7) and 3-6 Wednesday.
