Australian tennis sensation Bernard Tomic was arrested for refusing to turn down the noise following complaints from other residents of the hotel he was staying in. The 22-year-old has been charged with trespassing and resisting arrest after he refused to leave his room at W South Beach hotel, Miami despite several attempts by the authorities.
Having been omitted from the Australian Davis Cup squad to face Kazakhstan in the quarter-final this weekend, the youngster was relaxing in Miami. The Miami Beach Police account stated that Tomic “pointed his finger aggressively towards hotel security”.
Tomic is alleged to have refused to decrease the music level thrice from his penthouse room in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The guests had left, but the two-time ATP Tour winner was taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Court and jail records did not list an attorney for the controversial Australian. This is not the first time that he has been in the news for wrong reasons. Earlier this year, he had accused the Australian Tennis Federation of abandoning him. The World No. 25 has not represented his native country ever since he underwent hip surgery last year.
He recently played in a Hall of Fame championship match in Rhode Island in the United States of America, where he lost 3-6, 5-7 to John-Patrick Smith in the first round. The governing body of Australian tennis had labelled the tournament as ‘Hall of Shame’ in a media release, for which they later apologised.
