Top seed Coco Gauff is set to open her campaign in Berlin against Ekaterina Alexandrova in a second-round encounter on Wednesday, June 19.

Gauff opened her 2024 season in style by picking up the title in Auckland, getting the better of Elina Svitolina in a gripping three-setter. She reached the semifinals in Australia where she was beaten by eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka. She continued that good form in Dubai and Indian Wells, reaching the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.
Gauff didn't get off to the best start on clay but finished well with a run to the last four at the Italian Open and French Open. She to Iga Swiatek on both occasions in straight sets.
Alexandrova, meanwhile, holds a 17-15 match record so far this season, with a run to the Linz Open final being her best finish so far. She played some of her best-ever tennis in Miami, beating the likes of Donna Vekic, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Iga Swiatek, and Jessica Pegula, before going down to eventual champion Danielle Collins.
Alexandrova opened her grass court campaign in 's-Hertogenbosch last week. Seeded third, she coasted through to the semifinals where she lost to the eventual champion Liudmila Samsonova 3-6, 7-6(1), 1-6.
She played her first round in Berlin earlier today and got the better of Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Coco Gauff and Ekaterina Alexandrova's encounter promises plenty of action for fans with both of them entering the contest evenly stacked.
Gauff has had a sub-par season so far by her lofty standards. She's won just one title at the start of the year and has failed to make it to a final since. She has, however, seen a wave of good results on clay recently, reaching the business end of the tournament in Rome and Paris.
Alexandrova, meanwhile, has seen patches of brilliance this year but has struggled to maintain consistency. She has, however, been one to look out for given her recent form on grass. She was brilliant in her opening match, dominating on serve and using the back of the court well to boss play.
