Navarro has been one to watch on the tour this year and is slowly but steadily becoming a household name. She kicked off 2024 in style by picking up her first-ever WTA title at the Hobart International. She followed it up with a third round showing at the Australian Open the following week, going down to eventual semifinalist Dayana Yastremska in three sets.
Navarro held on to the good form going into the American hard court swing, reaching the last four in San Diego, the last eight in Indian Wells, and the fourth round in Miami. While she failed to make such runs on the clay initially, she finished strong with a fourth round finish at the French Open.
Siniakova on the contrary primarily plies her trade on the doubles circuit, but has impressed in singles too this year. She currently holds a 18-13 match record, with her best result so far being a third round finish in Qatar.
Siniakova is coming off a brilliant week in Paris, winning the women's doubles alongside Coco Gauff on the French clay this year. She reached the second round in the singles event at the Major, going down 3-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(6) to Chloe Paquet in a gruelling three-setter.
Siniakova opened her Berlin campaign in the qualifiers. She overcame German youngster Noma Noha Akugue 6-3, 6-0 in the opening round and passed Yulia Starodubtsewa 6-2, 6-2 in another seamless victory in the second round.
