Troubled Aussie tennis player Bernard Tomic has turned down Tennis Australia (TA)’s offer to make peace until the governing body resumes funding for his sister Sara, who is also a tennis player, as reported by BBC. His decision to refuse the olive branch extended to him by TA comes just a week after his arrest in Miami for playing loud music and being recalcitrant with local authorities.
After removing Tomic from the Australian Davis Cup team that beat Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals, TA wants to welcome him back into Australia’s Davis Cup team for the important semifinal tie against Great Britain which takes place in September.
Tomic however, is not keen on holding any talks until he is “..satisfied TA is committed to funding the development of junior Australian talent, including my sister Sara, on a non-discriminatory basis", BBC further reports.
TA withdrew funding for Bernard and Sara after a fallout with their father John Tomic in June, and the matter still remains unresolved.
Still willing to represent his country
For all his problems with TA, Tomic isn’t against representing Australia in the future:
"I am always ready, willing and able to play for Australia.” “It is my honour and privilege to do so. I consider that I have a good record and it is my hope to continue to represent my country,” BBC quoted him as saying.
He also made his thoughts regarding the current TA administrators very vocal:
"Importantly, I would like to thank previous TA administrators for their financial support in the past. Current TA administrators sacked me from the Davis Cup for comments I made at Wimbledon. I stand by those comments.”
