The big three who dominated tennis over the last decade

Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal

Federer, Nadal, Djokovic. The BIG 3 of Men’s tennis. I know there will be a time when there will be a Grand Slam final which doesn’t feature any of them. And that moment has arrived. When Kei Nishikori and Marin Cilic take the field for 2014 US Open Men’s Singles final, we will be engulfed in a weird feeling. A feeling that something was lost. I hope this final is something of exception and BIG-3 will make a comeback.

But For a moment, here is a list of some sporting events that happened when last time a Grand Slam Final without Nadal, Federer, Djokovic happened.

In Tennis,

  • Davenport was women's top seed.
  • Djokovic made his GS debut. He loses to eventual Champion Marat Safin in 1st round.
  • Federer, Roddick, Hewitt, Safin, Moya, Coria, Henman, Agassi were top 8 seeds.

In Football,

  • France was defending FIFA CONFEDERATION cup champions.
  • Greece was defending EURO champions by winning it in 2004 beating Portugal.
  • FC Porto was current CHAMPIONS LEAGUE champions after winning it in 2004 under Mourinho.

In Cricket,

  • West Indies were defending ICC Champions Trophy champions after their 2 wicket victory over hosts England.
  • There is no t20 International cricket at all. Yes. Believe it. 1st ever T20I was played on 17th Feb 2005.
  • 5 of the current national test team captains (Dhoni, Ramdin, Mathews, Rahim, and Cook) had not made their test debut.
  • Australia had not lost THE ASHES for the last 18 years.

In Formula-1,

  • Schumacher was defending F-1 Champion with Barrichello finishing runner-up.
  • Of the current F1 drivers list, apart from Massa, Raikkonen, Alonso and Button, no other driver has made their F1 debut.
