Paris, June 1 (IANS) Eugenie Bouchard booked a women's singles quarterfinal spot at the French Open after beating eighth seed Angelique Kerber 6-1, 6-2 here Sunday.

The 18th seeded Canadian needed only 52 minutes to hold off her German rival to make her second successive Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance.

The first set took only 23 minutes as Bouchard, 20, raced away to a 5-0 lead and broke Kerber's serve at will.

Kerber's serve was her weakpoint as she was broken in the third and the fifth games of the second set . She ended her disappointing display by hitting a Bouchard second serve long on matchpoint.

"I just felt good out there. I executed my game plan really well so I'm happy with that. I was really mentally prepared for anything. I took the ball early, kept seeing openings and finding the angles," said the World No.16 Bouchard.

"I have been trying to come to the net more and play aggressive and in this match whenever I saw she was out of court, I would try and come in and finish it off."

Bouchard will play 14th seed Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in the quarterfinals.
