Aryna Sabalenka vs Mirra Andreeva preview
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will face eighth seed Mirra Andreeva in the semifinals of the Brisbane International on Saturday, January 4, 2025. The winner of the match will face either Anhelina Kalinina or qualifier Polina Kudermetova in the final of the WTA 500 event on Sunday.
Sabalenka, who was the runner-up in last year's edition of the tournament, received a bye to the second round in 2025, and started with a 6-4, 6-0 drubbing of Renata Zarazua. She then beat 15th seed Yulia Putintseva 7-6(5), 6-4 to set up a quarterfinal date with Marie Bouzkova.
The Belarusian got broken in the very first game of the match, but she broke back in the very next game. She then landed another service break in the sixth game and went on to win the set 6-3. Sabalenka's break of the serve in the third game of the second set was decisive, as she went on to register a 6-3, 6-4 win to qualify for the semifinals of the Brisbane International.
Like the World No. 1, Mirra Andreeva also received a walkover to the second round of the WTA 500 tournament by virtue of being one of the seeded players. The Russian started her run in Brisbane with a 6-4, 6-4 win over compatriot Anna Blinkova before thrashing 12th seed Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-0 to book her place in the quarterfinals.
Here, Andreeva faced Ons Jabeur and she got the lead in the match after taking the first set 6-4. Jabeur fought back in the second set and had two set points in the 12th game. However, the teenager saved them and took the set to a tiebreak.
Andreeva dominated the tiebreak and eventually secured a 6-4, 7-6(2) win to book her place in the semifinals of the Brisbane International.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Mirra Andreeva prediction
Sabalenka's form over the past few months makes her the favorite entering this fixture. However, Andreeva is among the finest tennis teenagers at the moment and has beaten the Belarusian before. Hence, she is not one to be underestimated, as she will enter the match high on confidence, having not dropped a single set so far in Brisbane.
Sabalenka has a pretty decent first-serve record so far in the WTA 500 event, having won 91 out of 116 points on it, with 17 aces to her name. The Belarusian's serve, aggression, and highly improved mental composure is bound to trouble Andreeva.
The Russian teenager, on the other hand, has won 87 out of 124 points on her first serve during the Brisbane International so far, and has ten aces. However, she also has 11 double faults in from her three prior fixtures, and will have to be careful not to accumulate too many of them, as she cannot afford gifting points to Sabalenka.
Andreeva's persistence in going after balls, along with her stamina, will be key to withstanding the World No. 1's aggressive game. However, she also has to show considerable aggression on her part in order to stand a chance of winning.
The Russian will not be an easy opponent to beat but given her quality and current form, there is a fair chance of Sabalenka making it through to her second successive final in Brisbane.
