Second seed Aryna Sabalenka will take on Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open.

After missing the Wimbledon Championships and the Paris Olympics, Sabalenka is starting to find her form again in North America. She's had a promising season so far, winning 34 of her 44 matches. Besides clinching the 2024 Australian Open, the Belarusian also scored runner-up finishes in Madrid and Rome, where she struggled to get the better of Iga Swiatek in the finals.

Sabalenka entered Toronto on the back of a sharp semifinal run in Washington. She started her campaign by cruising past Yue Yuan in the first round and then outsmarted Katie Boulter in the second. The 26-year-old defeated the Brit Boulter in one hour and 23 minutes, 6-3, 6-3.

Amanda Anisimova, meanwhile, has had a quiet season so far on the women's tour. After a fourth-round finish in the Australian Open, she took a short break from tennis due to over-exhaustion. The American marked her return in April and has since chalked up a quarterfinal run in the Citi Open, where she lost to Caroline Dolehide.

The 22-year-old continued to make positive strides in the Canadian Open and has been clinical so far. She outfoxed the likes of Caroline Dolehide and Daria Kasatkina in the first two rounds. In the third round against Anna Kalinskaya, the American was handed the victory midway through the second set as Kalinskaya was forced to retire due to injury.

With Coco Gauff, Jelena Ostapenko, and Elina Svitolina out of the 2024 Canadian Open, Sabalenka will fancy her chances of going the distance. The Belarusian has been near-perfect so far, easing past both her matches en route to the quarterfinals. She conceded eight break points against Boulter but held her nerve to save all of them and progressed in straight sets.

Anisimova, on the other hand, is slowly finding her rhythm with back-to-back quarterfinal runs on tour. The American leads the head-to-head battle against Sabalenka and will feel confident about having a say in this bout. She is yet to drop a set in Toronto, winning an average of 70% points on her first serve.

A tricky encounter will be on the cards between Sabalenka and Anisimova in the quarterfinals. Considering their recent results and record on hard courts, Sabalenka will be a favorite going into this matchup. The Belarusian will need to stick to her strengths to ensure the momentum doesn't sway in the American's favor.

Pick: Sabalenka to win in three sets.
